Curriculum

Structured Genomics Training Pathway

The bootcamp is delivered in two levels: Foundation and Advanced. Each pathway runs for four weeks and combines lectures, laboratory demonstrations, hands-on practicals, case studies, and group projects.

Foundation Genomics Course Module Plan

Designed for participants who need a strong grounding in genomics, molecular biology, laboratory methods, sequencing workflows, and basic bioinformatics.

Week 01 Genomics Foundations

Foundations of Genomics & Molecular Biology

Focus: Building core understanding

  • Introduction to genomics
  • Overview of the Human Genome Project
  • DNA structure, genes, and chromosomes
  • Central dogma: DNA → RNA → Protein
  • Basics of gene expression
Practical: Introduction to lab safety, equipment, basic pipetting, and sample handling.
Week 02 Lab Techniques

Laboratory Techniques & Sequencing

Focus: Hands-on molecular biology

  • DNA/RNA extraction methods
  • DNA quantification and quality control
  • PCR and gel electrophoresis
  • Introduction to sequencing
  • Overview of sequencing workflows
Practical: DNA extraction, PCR setup, amplification, and gel electrophoresis.
Week 03 Bioinformatics

Bioinformatics & Genomics Data Analysis

Focus: Computational skills

  • Introduction to bioinformatics

  • Sequence alignment using BLAST
  • File formats: FASTA and FASTQ
  • Variant calling basics
